How To Make Homemade Barbecue Sauce That Is Ideal For All Your Summer Grilling

Posted on: 15 July 2016

Cooking on the grill is a common summer activity for many families, and there are so many different food items you could cook this way for summer meals and get-togethers. If you have an upcoming party planned and are looking for a great way to cook steak and pork chops, you might want to consider making your own barbecue and steak sauce. Here is a recipe you can use for steaks, pork chops, chicken, and almost anything else you might want to grill.

The Ingredients You Will Need And The Directions

Buying barbecue sauce is an easy option, but making your own can make your meal even tastier. Here are the ingredients you will need to make your very own barbecue sauce to use for the meats you grill:

  • 1 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 c. ketchup
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 3/4 c. red wine vinegar
  • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 T. dry mustard or plain mustard
  • 3 tsp. paprika
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. pepper

Once you've gathered these ingredients, place them in a bowl and mix well with a hand mixer. You could also place the ingredients in a blender to mix them together. When you are finished, store the sauce in a covered bowl in the refrigerator. If you would like your sauce to be spicy, add either cayenne pepper or hot sauce to it until it is as hot as you like.

How To Use This Sauce

There are several different ways to use this homemade sauce to make your grilled meats taste great. The first method is to use the sauce as a marinade. Marinating meats takes time, so you will need to plan this in advance. To marinade your meats, place the meat in a large zipper bag and add enough sauce to coat the meat well. Place the bag in the refrigerator overnight or for several hours. Turn the bag and shake it gently periodically to ensure that all the meat is soaking in the sauce. When you are ready to grill the meat, remove it from the bag and throw the bag along with the marinade in the trash.

Another option you have is to skip marinating the meat and apply the sauce to the meat as you grill it. You should apply thin layers to both sides of the meat prior to placing it on the grill, and you can add to as it is being grilled and after it is done.

Making your own sauce is a great way to cook foods that are unique and tasty, but there are a lot of  barbecue sauce products you can purchase, like G Dub's Sauces, if you prefer.
